Peru, a country of custom and tradition with beautiful places, known universally for its historic legacy, surprises us with its beauty, color and magic in each of its corners. One of the important legacies Peru has is the Peruvian Paso horses, a national treasure and pride to all. For some families, it is a pleasure to conserve this tradition. They have given themselves the task of zealously protecting this race. This is a small group of breeders, comparatively speaking, united in friendship, which has lasted through generations, and, through the test of time, have given the horse an important place outside of Peru and is known internationally.
Throughout the years, they have overcome inter nal conflicts that threatened to destroy this race. This was the case in 1968, the time of the military rule of Juan Velasco Alvarado. During this time, the agrarian reform is born as well as the expropriation of the haciendas of cattle ranchers and farmers, among them many breeders lost their homes and businesses. During these years, the breeders united stronger than before, demonstrated their strength before this adversity.
Among the expropriated properties was the Salaverry , headquarters to The National Association of Breeders and Owners of the Peruvian Paso Horse. The association worked tirelessly to conserve their heritage, reduced to work from small offices on a second floor. The Peruvian Paso horse is the perfect link between pride and patriotism, touching the generosity of others; they are able to collect the funds to purchase the lands for the headquarters they currently use. It is a large house full of history located on a street named Bellavista.
Mamacona is the campestral headquarters of the association. A group of equestrians acquired it. They first planted the eucalyptus and constructed the beautiful and comfortable facility.

It is worth noting that at an international level, it is one of the few associations who have facilities that are as beautiful and as well organized as this one, keeping a visual balance while maintaining a very rudimentary design. It is beautifully inspired by the green, with bougainvilleas of intense colors as well as eucalyptus, creating a peaceful sensation to all those who visit or work there. Throughout the streets, riders prepare their best horses. The streets within have the amenities of a small ranch, having six to eight cages for horses, a very comfortable and convenient house with all the comforts their owners can provide.
It is a first-class club.
The facility also includes a church, an event hall, and a field surrounded by great trees. Since 1975, Mamacona, located outside of Lima, has been a place for meetings and important events. The National competitions are one of the events, which take place in the month of April with the participation of over 600 registered horses. Currently, there are competitions held throughout the world, attracting new fans to this smooth and noble gait, spreading the pride of a country’s great tradition.
